Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

Physical Medicine

Physical medicine is an important physical treatment used to improve your strength and flexibility when health problems make it hard to move around, limiting your ability to accomplish everyday tasks.

By moving better, it also may relieve pain while restoring your physical function and your fitness level. The goal of physical therapy is to make daily tasks such as walking, going up stairs, or any other activity of daily living easier. We may suggest physical therapy for injuries or long-term health problems, such as back pain.

Physical medicine can also help with recovery after procedures and surgery. Components of a physical therapy program include flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and balance and gait training. Your physical therapist will also teach you an exercise program to be done at home, allowing you to progress faster. Other treatments include manual therapy, education, and techniques such as heat, cold, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

One of the most important indicators of how quickly and completely a person recovers from orthopedic surgery is the effectiveness of their rehabilitation program and whether they follow the program as instructed. At Elite Therapy and Wellness, we are experts in post-surgery rehabilitation of the back, neck, hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, elbow, and wrist and are dedicated to helping patients heal faster and more completely. In fact, many of the top surgeons in the Palm Beach area refer their patients to our practice following surgery.

The path to recovery following surgery often begins slowly. We know that patients beginning post-surgery care may still be in pain. Each day following surgery, however, is a building block aimed at achieving a complete recovery. Our post-surgery rehabilitation program is an active process that is led by the patient. Our therapists are highly trained to customize rehabilitation programs to grow with patients as they regain strength, ability and range of motion. We push our patients more intensely as therapy progresses, and also understand the frustration that patients sometimes experience as their body heals. In addition to the physical aspects of recovery, our therapists also help patients cope with the very common emotional and psychological aspects that sometimes follow surgery.

Our physical therapists work one-on-one with each patient to provide the most effective treatment program possible. We follow the treating physician’s specific prescription and develop a comprehensive physical therapy program that is the key to working toward a full recovery and regaining complete range of motion. Our hands-on approach ensures that patients are completing their exercises, and that they are doing them correctly and effectively. We teach strengthening techniques to foster recovery, assess for muscle imbalances, and compensation patterns, while educating patients about proper posture and body mechanics during everyday activities. We also develop personalized exercise programs that patients can utilize at home in order to help expedite the recovery process.

Our physical therapy center is conveniently located in Jupiter, Florida and is easily accessed from anywhere in Palm Beach County. At Elite Therapy and Wellness, we help our patients recover faster and regain strength and range of motion following surgery. We accomplish this by providing each patient with a customized rehabilitation program, as well as the individualized attention and support that they need to move along the path to complete recovery
